Water Damage Repair in Kollam: Phones, Tablets and Laptops

Do this first

1. Switch it off if it is still on. If it is already off, don't turn it on to test it.
2. Don't charge it and don't plug it into anything. Power running through a wet board is what turns a spill into a short.
3. Take off the case, pull out the SIM tray and wipe the outside dry. For a laptop, unplug the charger and anything connected to it.
4. No rice, no hair dryer, no oven. Hot air can blow liquid further in, and heat can damage the battery and screen.
5. Remember what the liquid was: rain, sea water, tea with sugar and a pool all leave different residue, so it helps us to know.
6. Bring it to Alfa-Fix Central, or WhatsApp us first. The sooner the better.

Why rice doesn't help

Rice only dries what it touches, which is the outside of the phone. The liquid that matters is inside, under the chips and in the connectors, and rice can't reach it.

Drying also doesn't remove what the water leaves behind. Tap water, sea water and drinks carry salts and sugars. Once the water evaporates those stay on the board, and they keep corroding it, especially where power is present. A phone that seems fine after a day in rice can stop working weeks later for exactly that reason.

What liquid does inside a device

A device doesn't have to be switched on for damage to start, but power makes it much worse. Current flowing through wet contacts eats away pins and tracks and forms bridges between parts that should never touch. The result is usually a short on a power line, or a chip that has been cooked.

Symptoms we see after liquid exposure

• No power at all, or it switches on only while connected to the charger
• Not charging, or charging very slowly
• Black screen while the phone still rings or vibrates
• Stuck on the logo or restarting in a loop
• Camera, Face ID, Wi-Fi or speaker stopped working
• Muffled sound, fogging under the screen, ghost touches
• Getting hot, or the battery draining fast when idle

Any of these can show up days or weeks after the spill, not only on the day.

How we handle it at Alfa-Fix Central

1. We open the device, disconnect the battery and look at the board under the microscope for residue and corrosion.
2. We clean the board and connectors to remove residue before anything is powered again.
3. We check the power lines for shorts and trace them to the failed part. We name the failed line or IC and tell you before any work.
4. You get the price. Nothing is repaired until you say yes.
5. We repair at component level (the damaged part, not the whole board), then test the device.

Be realistic about the outcome

Liquid damage is the least predictable repair we do. What happens depends on the liquid, how long the device stayed powered and how far the corrosion has spread. Some devices come back fully. Some come back with one feature lost. Some can't be saved. We tell you which it looks like after diagnosis, not before.

Your photos and data

On modern phones and MacBooks the data sits on a storage chip that is soldered to the board and encrypted to that board. If it isn't backed up, repairing your own board is usually the only way to get it back. A replacement board starts empty.
