Laptop Motherboard Repair in Kollam: Chip-Level, Not Board Swaps

Signs of a motherboard fault

• No power: no lights, no fan, nothing when you press the button
• Charging light off, or the battery never goes up, even with a good adapter
• Power light and fan come on, but the screen stays black
• Switches off a few seconds after starting, or keeps restarting before Windows loads
• Caps lock blinking or beeping in a pattern when you switch on
• Runs very hot and shuts down, or a burnt smell near the charging port
• Stopped working after a spill, a power cut or a different adapter
• A USB port, the keyboard or the touchpad stopped working on its own

Try this first

• Try another adapter of the right rating if you have one, and check the cable for damage near the plug.
• Unplug the adapter, take out the battery if it's removable, hold the power button for about 30 seconds, then try again on the adapter.
• Connect an external monitor or TV. If a picture appears there, the fault may be the screen or its cable rather than the board.
• Note any blink or beep pattern. It helps diagnosis.
• If liquid was involved, don't try any of this. Unplug it, switch it off and bring it in. See water damage repair.

Chip-level repair vs a replacement motherboard

A replacement motherboard can be hard to find for an older or less common model, and when one turns up it can be a used board with problems of its own. It also replaces far more than the one part that failed.

Chip-level repair works on your own board. We find the failed component (a charging controller, a shorted capacitor, a power chip or a corrupted BIOS chip, for example), replace or repair it, and test the laptop. Your board keeps its serial number, and Windows activation is usually tied to the board, so it stays as it was.

How we diagnose it at Alfa-Fix Central

We check what the board draws from the adapter, measure the main power lines for shorts and trace them under the microscope to the part that has failed. We name the failed line or IC and tell you before any work. Then you get the price, and nothing is repaired until you say yes.

What happens to your data

On most Windows laptops the SSD or hard drive is a separate part, so a motherboard fault usually leaves your files untouched. Some thin laptops have storage soldered to the board, and for those, repairing the board is the way to reach the data. If there is anything you can't lose, tell us at the start. If BitLocker or Device Encryption is switched on, know where your recovery key is (it's usually saved in your Microsoft account). Upgrades while it's open
