Signs your iPhone battery needs replacing

- The phone only works while it is plugged in.

Swollen battery? Do this first
A swelling battery pushes the screen out of the frame and can crack it. Stop charging the phone, don't press on the bulge, and don't try to open it yourself. Bring it in to Alfa-Fix Express, Kavanad and we'll check whether it is safe to work on and replace the battery.
Battery Health and parts notices — the honest version
On recent iPhones, iOS checks whether it can verify the battery that is fitted. After a battery is replaced outside Apple's own repair channel, iOS may show a notice that it cannot verify the battery, list it as an Unknown Part, or leave out the Maximum Capacity percentage in Battery Health.
The notice is informational: the phone charges and runs normally with the new battery. We can't promise what Battery Health will show after a replacement, and we won't. What we do promise is to tell you the battery grade before we fit it, so you decide with the facts in front of you.
How it works
- WhatsApp us your iPhone model (Settings › General › About › Model Name) for an estimate and to check the battery is in stock.
- Walk in to Alfa-Fix Express, Kavanad, or courier the phone from anywhere in India (typical return 3–5 days).
- Free check: we confirm the battery is the cause, not a charging port or board fault.
- We name the battery grade and confirm the price. Nothing is fitted until you say yes.
- We fit the battery, test charging and battery behaviour, and hand the phone back with a 6-month warranty on the part and our workmanship.
When it isn't the battery
Sometimes a new battery doesn't fix it: the phone still won't charge, still shuts down, or won't turn on at all. That points to the charging port, a charging chip or another board-level fault. Those are diagnosed at Alfa-Fix Central, our board-level lab at Chinnakada — see iPhone no-boot repair. If the phone has been in water, read water damage repair before charging it.
Before you come in
- Back up to iCloud or a computer. A battery replacement doesn't normally touch your data, but a backup is the only real protection.
- We ask for the passcode and for Find My to be switched off so the phone can be tested after the repair. If you'd rather not share the passcode, tell us and we'll explain what can and can't be tested.
- Our technicians open only what the repair needs. Nothing on your phone is copied, kept or shared.

Why does my iPhone say Service in Battery Health?
iOS shows the Service recommendation when the battery has worn down a lot and can no longer deliver the power the phone needs, which causes fast drain and sudden shutdowns. Replacing the battery fixes that. What Battery Health shows afterwards depends on the model and the battery, and we explain this before fitting.
Will my iPhone show a parts notice after a battery replacement?

My iPhone battery is swollen. Is it safe?
Stop charging it and don't press on it. A swollen battery can crack the screen and should be replaced soon. Bring it in and we'll check whether it is safe to work on.
Is there a warranty on the new battery?
Yes. The new battery and our fitting are covered by a 6-month warranty. Liquid-damaged devices, and devices opened before by someone else, are repaired on a best-efforts basis without warranty (Repair Terms, clause 12).
Can I courier my iPhone for a battery replacement?
